At the time of the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change in 2006 and the consequent "Mini Stern" for Liverpool City Region in 2009, it was estimated that approximately 7,000 jobs could be created in Liverpool City Region's Low Carbon Economy by 2015.
Such is the pace of development of opportunities in this sector that the latest analysis, contained in the Low Carbon Economy Action Plan (Published February 2011), based on published reports, research and consultation with industry, forecasts that nearly 12,000 new jobs can be created in the Liverpool City Region Low Carbon Economy over the next 5 years.
Already an estimated 8,700 people are employed in the Liverpool City Region in a diverse range of low carbon sub sectors, within several hundred businesses.
Offshore Wind Energy, Microgeneration, Smart Grid and Retrofitting in particular offer substantial new job creating opportunities utilising Wirral's key assets, capabilities and businesses.
