The results have produced a strong and flexible business community which has a significant input to both the local and regional economies.

The companies are both diverse in operations and wide ranging in size - from chemical production, pharmaceuticals, civil, electronic and mechanical engineering, research & development, retail and leisure, marketing and design, legal, ship building - to name just a few.

Many have established long term links with the region's universities, particularly the facilities at the University of Liverpool anbd Liverpool John Moores University. Regionally, there are eight universities which produce thousands of graduates each year, a vast pool of high quality labour.
