Wirral based green energy specialist completes four new contracts
Wirral based global renewable energy ‘heat pump’ manufacturer Stiebel Eltron has completed four high profile installations worth more than £300,000.
The German owned firm has supplied its heat pumps to a variety of projects including for the Financial Services Authority (FSA), based in London’s Canary Wharf. Here Stiebel Eltron has supplied one air source heat pump on each of the 14 floors to provide hot water. The heat pumps are housed in a chiller plant room, which provide air conditioning to cool the building. The heat pumps installed in these rooms recycle the latent heat generated, to supply 300 litres of hot water for the washrooms.
Stiebel has further completed a deal in the important social housing sector with the Hyde Housing Association, in West Sussex. Here Stiebel has installed five exhaust air heat pumps into a new build bungalow development. The heat pumps extract warm air from the kitchens and bathrooms of the bungalows creating heat for the hot water, central heating and under floor heating in five homes.
Meanwhile Stiebel has also supplied five heat pumps for a new Welsh Assembly funded Heritage Centre near Pwllhelii in North Wales called Nant Gwrtheyrn. The site has been converted into a culture and events venue. Four of the heat pumps installed are air source and will provide heating and hot water for 20 apartments in the derelict former mining village. The fifth heat pump is ground source working with two solar thermal panels to supply domestic hot water to the ‘caffi’ area, which compromises of a conference and cafe building.
Another new installation is a large country house Hanson Hall, in Nether Alderley, Cheshire which was dismantled and moved to a new location to make way for Manchester Airport’s second runway. Here Stiebel has installed three WPF 16M ground source heat pumps reducing Hanson Hall’s carbon emissions by two thirds.
Stiebel Eltron’s UK managing director Mark McManus says he expects sales of heat pumps to continue to rise in 2010 as the UK seeks to go green and hit its carbon emission targets.
“We expect to see demand for heat pumps continue to increase across all property sectors – domestic and commercial,” he said. “There are formidable green energy targets to hit critically for renewable to generate 12pc of UK heat supply by 2020, at the moment it is less than 1pc. So there is a huge challenge here especially when you consider that heat is the sleeping giant of climate change action accounting for half of UK carbon emissions and half UK energy use.”
Mr McManus said going green is also surprisingly cost effective with Government grants available as well as huge savings on volatile oil and gas bills.
Stiebel Eltron will undertake a free energy efficiency report for any property in the UK. It further offers a free eco design service to any architect or developer in Britain to help ensure their plans hit tough green energy building standards. Stiebel is also actively looking to recruit and train installers across the UK and has recently launched an ambitious incentive package. It is specifically looking to partner properly qualified engineers, electrical contractors, plumbing contractors and heating and ventilation specialist.
